Sir Sean Connery clasps his doting wife's hand in one of the last pictures of the couple taken months before he died after suffering dementia.  It was taken on the pair's 45th wedding anniversary on the 6 May this year in the Bahamas, where Sean who died aged 90 had lived for decades.  The picture has emerged after Sean's wife Micheline Roquebrune paid tribute to the 007 star as her 'gorgeous model of a man'.  Revealing how Sean's final months were blighted by dementia, Micheline, who was married to the Oscar-winning star for 45 years, said: 'It was no life for him. He was not able to express himself latterly.  At least he died in his sleep and it was just so peaceful. I was with him all the time and he just slipped away. It was what he wanted.  He had dementia and it took its toll on him. He got his final wish to slip away without any fuss.'

The 91-year-old Moroccan-French painter, who met the Scot in 1970 at a golf tournament and became his second wife, added: 'He was gorgeous and we had a wonderful life together.   He was a model of a man. It is going to be very hard without him, I know that. But it could not last for ever and he went peacefully.'

Sean's marriage to Micheline survived the actor's well-documented affair with 1980s singer-songwriter Lynsey de Paul.  It's believed the couple celebrated their anniversary at Sean's home in where died on New Providence Island.  In his final few years, Sean rarely left the gated Lyford Cay community where he spent his retirement after packing in acting in June 2006 becoming a virtual recluse and giving his agent strict instructions to reject all movie offers.  He was also pictured at his 89th birthday celebrations in the Bahamas with son Jason, 57, and his Irish musician partner Fiona Ufton, 53.  Sean married Micheline in a private ceremony in Gibraltar in May 1975 after meeting her five years earlier.  The pair met at a golf tournament in Morocco in 1970.  She had been married twice before and Sean had already split from his first wife Diane Cilento.  Micheline revealed the pair hit it off and romped within 24 hours of meeting.  Sean said: 'In the early days it was difficult for us to see each other.  She was still living in North Africa with her children.'

Micheline is a painter and creates her work using 'simplified forms, unexpected croppings and changes of scale'.  She has diverse interests, and also produces plays. Her Broadway play Art earned a Tony Award.  Micheline is a keen golfer, and she often plays golf with her husband Sean Connery.  She was also part of the crew on her husband's 1983 James Bond film Never Say Never Again.  Sean and Micheline did not have any children together but they both had kids from their previous relationships.  The James Bond actor had one son, Jason Connery, with first wife, actress Diane Cilento.  Sean was married to Diane for 11 years, from 1962 to 1973.  His first marriage has been mired with controversy after Diane accused him of being abusive.  Their son, Jason, is now an English actor, voice actor and director.  He famously took on the starring role in ITV drama series Robin Of Sherwood in 1986.  Micheline has three children from her previous marriages Oliver, Micha, and Stephane
